Music and SEN
Music Over Matter also provides and prides itself specially designed music lessons for the enjoyment and benefit of children with special needs.
Students are given the opportunity to learn songs, develop skills and explore their own musical ideas though improvisation. We can provide a range of instruments as well as music technology on iPad to suit all genres, creative minds and musical preferences.
We use a mix of intensive interaction and free improvisation along side musical games and coloured notation. Musical development is mapped through using the Sound of Intent framework.
Musical development and enjoyment is the top priority but not the only. Every session also aims to also support the development of motor functions, cognitive ability, speech, emotional wellbeing and social skills.
We also run workshops and lessons for parents, guardians and teachers wishing to build upon their skills and musical confidence.
Music Over Matter was founded by Emma Hughes. Emma is a bass guitarist at heart but plays a range of instruments including guitar, piano and ukulele. In 2011 she completed her BMus Degree at The Academy of Contemporary Music and is now (2019) studying towards her MA in Music Therapy at UWE in Bristol. She has predominantly been working as a session musician playing for Brit-award winning artist Kate Nash. Over the past 8 year she has toured the world globally, worked with various artists and also performed on TV shows such as: The Xfactor and Alan Carr's Chatty man.
